On the topic of ‘Styling versus Wearing’, we asked David Jones Stylist, Megan Cross for a masterclass on just that. Read as Megan shares her tips on how to elevate the pieces in your capsule wardrobe.

Hi guys! My name is Megan, I moved over from London to Melbourne in 2015 and I am the stylist for David Jones as well as the founder of ‘Megan Cross Style’ which is a personal styling business. I work with a broad range of clientele styling them for special occasions, their seasonal wardrobes and everything in between!

Q:  What are your favourite upcoming trends of the season?

This is controversial but definitely the Horseshoe jean!

Q:  What are the five must-have pieces for the capsule winter wardrobe?

For me an oversized long wool coat, a pair of dark blue denim, a grey knit, good quality leather belt and a basic white t-shirt for layering.

Q: What is the secret to achieving an ‘effortlessly cool’ look?

I would say incorporating masculine elements, like a boxy oversized fit gives that vibe.

Q: What accessories are on your Wishlist for the season?

Well I actually just purchased my Wishlist item which was a YSL belt. However I now have my eye on some Miu Miu sunglasses next!  

Q: How would you style three looks from Friend of Audrey's winter collection?

Look 1 - I’ve styled the Willa Vegan Leather set with some black Alias Mae heels, a chunky leather belt and simple gold jewellery. Less is more with this look!

Look 2 - I’ve styled the Cotton Poplin Striped Shirt leaving the bottom buttons undone to show some shape, the Banks Tailored Trousers, the same black Alias Mae heels and chunky leather belt. I’ve also added the Kennedy Double Breasted Coat to give a masculine finish! This look for me hits that effortlessly cool feel.

Look 3 - I’ve styled the Astrid Cardigan with the Glou Maxi Skirt and some cream Alias Mae heels to keep the look tonal which always makes you feel put together. I love the relaxed fit of these pieces!

Look 4 - Added an oversized coat to complete the winter layering look.
